Homegroups
At our church we believe that homegroups are the primary place in which we learn to grow as Christians.
Homegroups are groups of people that meet during the week to study the Bible together, to pray together, to encourage each other in our Christian faith, to worship together and to reach out to others.
Can't we do all that on Sunday at church? Services on Sunday at church are celebrations led by our leaders from the front. It's not practical at church to engage in discussion with the preacher or ask for personal prayer or get to know each other as well as we might. But we can do so, midweek at homegroups.
In our Sunday services we cater for people that are new to the church and to a wide range of ages. The teaching, worship and fellowship are not as deep as we would like to go for those that have been Christians for some time; homegroups meet that need.
The big advantage of homegroups is that when we meet together we have the opportunity to engage together in learning more about following Jesus.
Studying The Bible
The Bible can be confusing at times and sermons often throw up more questions than they answer. Homegroups are the ideal place to ask those awkward questions, debate a variety of issues, air the misgivings we have with the Bible and with church and come to some conclusions together.
Fellowship And Prayer
As we slowly get to know each other and trust each other we are able to share our personal needs and concerns: listening to each others' needs, supporting each other and praying for each other. Finding a safe place to grow where we are accepted without fear of being laughed at or condemned or embarrassed is wonderful.
Reaching Out To Others
It is easy for homegroups to fall into the trap of being a 'holy huddle' of like-minded people that only ever think of themselves. Everything we do at church needs to be outward focussed so our aim in our homegroups is to welcome new members by arranging social events that encourage new people to join and welcoming them into the group.
If you would like to know more about our different homegroups - when they meet, where they meet and how often they meet-please speak to Charles or Clive.
